Chapter Fourteen

“I don’t give a shit how you manage it. We need a vehicle and my gear.” Ian shifted a glance to his wife to see her watching him with a smile that said she knew exactly why he was giving Smith hell.

He’d woken harder than he’d ever been in his life to find her not only awake but aware he was ready. She’d given him much the same look as she was now, leaned in close enough to kiss him, but she’d whispered four little words that started his day off on the wrong foot.

“I don’t think so.”

Amazed, certain she couldn’t mean it, he’d done the wrong damn thing…again. He’d rested his hand behind his head under the wrong illusion that his hard-on was enough to take that ‘no’ right off her pretty lips. She’d given it a considering ten-second glance then gotten up.

He was still in a state of pissed-off shock.

“All right, all right.” Smith sounded like he was walking. The man needed to lay off the takeout food. “Don’t get your boxers in a bind because things aren’t going as planned on the home front. You’re damned lucky you didn’t get her killed.”

“That was never a possibility.” But, if he’d hesitated one more minute, thirty seconds… Instead of his wife driving him crazy, she’d be dead. His erection waned as his mind played out an alternative jump from that train, complete with them landing on rocks. “Get the gear.”

“I’ve got it en route. I’ll text you where, but I’m hoping by noon you’ll have it. Should be in the next town over. Wait, no, two. Silver Audi, gear in the back. Noon.”

Ian sighed and turned his back on Andy, rubbing his chin as he tried to get his brain back on track. Andy. She already had him referring to her as Andy in his head. How crazy is that?

He dropped his hand and watched a few people walking by on the street below—normal, an average tourist town and so far not a sign of the men from the train, the trained killers. If he’d had more time, he would have looked for ID. Instead, his mind had been fixed on one thing—the woman driving him crazy.

“Fine. I’ll rent a car. We’ll check in when I’m outta the mountains. I want details on the men—names, where they’re from and how they found us.”

“Got it. Get moving. Staying the night might have thrown them. They’d expect you to run. I thought you would.”

Ian knew that. He also knew he’d have to keep being unpredictable, but he needed his gear. He felt exposed—worse, vulnerable—without it. The weight of his Glock wasn’t enough, not nearly. “Good. Talk to you then.”

“Right.” Smith ended the call, but Ian held the phone a second or two longer, dreading the confrontation he knew was going to happen when he turned around. She’s turned me into a pussy! Turn around, face the shit you caused and win her back.

He pocketed his phone and turned. Andy was up, dressed and waiting on him.
